Steven Tyler’s Still Got It

Who else in their sixties could carry off a look like this and still look sexy, not ridiculous?

I’ve got to admit that besides loving Steven Tyler’s music and voice, there’s something strangely attractive about a 64 year old man who can still carry off this type of look.

Maybe, it stems back to my days of rock (now considered “Classic Rock”) from the 70’s and my tastes from back then, but I find myself tuning into American Idol, just to see what Tyler will be wearing and what stunts he’ll pull each week.

What’s clear is that Tyler had it and has still got it.

In seeing Tyler on stage on American Idol, performing “Dream On” where he screamed out the climax of the song with the words, “dream on” in his rocker style, screeching voice, I couldn’t help feel that no matter what the man has done, no matter how rank he is with his mouth, he can still turn heads…even the younger ones who wouldn’t have known him in his younger years except through Youtube videos.

Though Tyler admits that the entire ’80’s decade is a blank to him, (due to drug issues), seeing him allegedly, clean and sober now, seems to wipe out whatever he did during that decade and likely, the decade before it as well as the younger crowd now gets to know him and his work..

Often looking as though he’s “out of it” while a judge on American Idol, Tyler usually surprises the audience and viewers when, still looking somewhat stunned and clueless, comes up with answers, direct, to the point and sometimes, while off-color, still comical, letting us all know that he’s far from being brain-damaged by age or the drugs.

Though Tyler has had his ups and downs, he’s still in there kicking.  With a new album, written during breaks from judging American Idol, rumoured to come out Spring of 2012, numerous tv show appearances, even guest starring in “Two And A Half Men, and becoming a new fashion icon for Andy Hilfiger’s new line, Andrew Charles (now available at Macey’s), along with one of his daughters, Chelsea.  Apparently, Tyler will often steal her clothes.  Who would have thought?

“We’re gonna have a vintage sound, ’cause we’re going to tape and a lot of good things like that,” Tyler has stated. “We’re keeping tracks lean, not a lot of overdubs, and like I said, we’re using Jack to his fullest. So you’re gonna hear some stuff where you might think Aerosmith’s back.”

Well, let’s hope he’s right because after 41 years of on and off again and back on again with Aerosmith, what worked then, still works now for Tyler.  He’ll be hitting the road soon after this year’s Idol gig ends, starting their tour June 18th.

After several marriages to two beautiful women, Warhol model, Cyrinda Fox and clothing designer, Teresa Barrick as well as fathering four children, (3 girls and a boy, during those marriages), Tyler is off and running towards his third marriage to 39-year-old, Erin Brady and having one grandchild to date.

I’ve got to give the man props, as Randy Jackson, Tyler’s co-Idol judge would say.  He’s still got it and he’s not giving it up anytime soon.

I’ve yet to read Tyler’s autobiographical book, “Does The Noise In My Head Bother You?” but, it’s next on my list, as will be acquiring and listening to his new album.

While Tyler may have aged, his penned lyrics to Aerosmith’s “Dream On” hold true for Steven.

Every time when I look in the mirror,

All these lines on my face getting clearer

The past is gone It went by, like dusk to dawn

Isn’t that the way

Everybody’s got the dues in life to pay

I know nobody knows Where it comes and where it goes

I know it’s everybody sin

You got to lose to know how to win

Well, Steven….you may have been payin’ your dues (diagnosed with Hepatitis C in 2003, thought to be due to dirty needles during his drug use days) through your life but, you’ve obviously done something right because you certainly know how to win.

Dream On…Dream On….DREAM ON…….
